When the owner of Montana based Karl Tyler’s Missoula Volkswagen wanted to modernize the look of their building his architect specified insulated metal panels. When the construction bid came back at $35 per square foot, the owner thought that his vision would not be possible within a reasonable budget.

However the general contractor on the project, Mostad Construction, knew how to make his vision a reality without breaking the bank. He contacted Dryvit’s Montana distributor, TEXTERIORS to help maintain the architect and owner’s original vision by using Dryvit’s Outsulation Plus MD System with the Finesse™ and Sandpebble Fine™ finishes.

The Sandpebble Fine™ finish was spray applied over a fluted wall.

Dryvit applicator, 4 Real Plastering was then able to construct several wall mockups utilizing the two finishes that best matched the look the client desired. These mockups allowed the architect, the client and the Volkswagen corporate management teams to all approve the materials.

During installation, a total of 9,000 square feet of Dryvit’s Outsulation Plus MD System was installed. Of that, 3,000 square feet of Finesse™ finish was used to complete the showroom portion of the dealership. The remaining 6,000 square feet of the building received a unique application of Sandpebble Fine™ finish that was sprayed over a fluted surface.

The final budget for the project was approximately $20 per square foot.

In the end, the building owner got the look he wanted as well as several other benefits from using the Dryvit system, including increased energy efficiency, reduced maintenance and the peace of mind that the entire system was installed by a single contractor and is backed by an industry leading warranty.
